Mrugaya's Conservation and Education Programs
As a company that conducts eco-tourism activities primarily in the forested areas especially around wildlife sanctuaries, we believe it is also our duty to give back to the community as well as the nature and wildlife that we depend on for our experiences. These are some of the projects we run parallelly with our experiences.
Malabar Pit-viper Monitoring
Amboli is one of the best places to spot the stunning Malabar Pit Viper, a true gem of the Western Ghats. With a high density of these snakes, it’s not uncommon to encounter multiple individuals on a single trail, though sadly, road kills happen.
Starting monsoon 2025, as part of Mrugaya’s conservation and education initiative, we’re documenting sightings of these vipers during our herping trails. This data could play a vital role in shaping future conservation efforts in collaboration with the local community.

Hump-nosed Pit-viper Monitoring
Goan forests are hotspots for spotting Hump-nosed Pit Vipers and we do spot these quite regularly during out herping and night trails in Goa. With a good population density, it is also important to look as threats especially in disturbed area as well as places which have roads passing through them.
Similar to the Malabar Pit Viper program, we are also running this program from the monsoon in 2025, documenting sightings of these vipers during our herping trails. This data could play a vital role in shaping future conservation efforts in collaboration with the local community.
