Amboli is known among the herping community for the immense diversity of frogs and snakes. It is one of the best places to see the Malabar Pit Viper in the northern Western Ghats. Apart from this there are many other herps that this place is a home to. The Dancing frog (Micrixalus uttarghati) which was described from Amboli itself and the Amboli Toad which is found in  plenty on the lateritic plateaus. Amboli is also receives the highest rainfall in the Northern Western Ghats which is probably the reason for the diversity of herps found here.
